2012 Budget: FG to accord education priority

Port Harcourt- FEDERAL Government has promised to give education greater attention in next year’s budget. Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who gave the assurance, recently while on inspection of facilities at Federal Government Colleges in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, urged teachers to be committed to their jobs.

According to him, Federal Government was not happy with the failure rate in Mathematics and English Language subjects in WAEC and NECO.

While urging teachers in these areas to put in more efforts, he said government had taken steps to address the quality of education in the country.

Wike said: “In the Mathematics and English Language results released by WAEC, the percentage rate of failure is not encouraging.

“We will see that we improve the quality of our education. If we can’t do anything on education, then there is no country.”
