An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Mr Aminu Abdullahi, on Monday ordered one Nasiru Issa, 44, of Suleja in Niger, to be given 18 lashes of cane for stealing a handset.
Police Prosecutor, Abu Okpanachi told the court that one Mr M.M. Oyelete of Realist Chambers, Wuse Zone 5, reported the matter at the Police Area Command, Metro Office at Maitama in the FCT on Oct. 10.
Okpanachi said that the complainant left his handset, valued at N50, 000 on the table where he sat at Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, while discussing with somebody and that the convict stole the handset.
He said that the convict was seen and arrested by people at the scene who recovered the handset from him.
The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under section 287 of the Penal Code Law.
Abdullahi ordered the Police prosecutor to give the convict 18 lashes and warned him not to repeat the offence again.
