9 people docked over N6million Naira theft

Calabar – Nine persons were arraigned, yesterday, before a Calabar Magis-trate Court, for allegedly stealing N6 million from Favourite Super-market, Calabar, Cross River State.

Six of the suspects (names withheld) were accused of conspiracy and stealing, punishable under Section 520 (6) of the Criminal Code Cap C16, Vol. 3 Laws of Cross River State, 2004.

The suspects were also accused of stealing assorted types of hot drinks and wine valued at N6 million belonging to one Chizioke Ugochukwu, owner of the super market.

One of the suspects was said to have received assorted types of hot drinks worth N1.5 million, allegedly stolen from the super market by two of the suspects, while another one was also accused of receiving assorted types of hot drinks and red wine valued N1.5 milliom allegedly stolen from the super market by three of the suspects.

However, before the counsel representing the suspects could plead for bail for the suspects, the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, had applied to take over the case from the Police, which was not opposed by parties.
