Amazing! NBA Finals MVP Winner, Iguodala Root Traced To Nigeria

Gone are the days when African basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) player are labeled raw, long, athletic, shot blocker, tough, good size and the rest.

Golden Gates Warrior Andre Iguodala was named the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP). Iguodala beats James LeBron by a vote by a 7-4 vote to win the MVP honours.

As much as his winning the honour has been celebrated by basketball lovers all over the world, Nigerians inclusive, not many are aware that the Illinois born basketball player who was a member of the USA National Team that won gold at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the USA “Redeemed Team” that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympic root has been linked to Nigeria.

Iguodala’s African root was through his father born in Nigeria later travelled to the USA where he met his mother, Linda Shanklin, who is an African -American. His elder brother, Frank also plays basketball.

Out of love for humanity, Iguodala in 2006 established the Andre Iguodala Disaster Relief Fund and raised money for tornado victims of Springfield, Illinois, his hometown. He also established the Andre Iguodala Youth Foundation which he said is a means of using sport to help the youths.

Andre is not all about sport, he is also a fashion icon. He was named Menswear Style Director in March 2015 by an online secondhand apparel outlet. Iguodala at his leisure time love playing the video games.

Aside Andre who said he has always been looking up to Micheal Jordan, other Africans doing well in NBA include Serge Ibaka from Togo, Thabo Sefelosha South Africa and Luc Mbah a Moute from Cameroon among others
