ANAN establishes accounting labs in seven varsities

IMMEDIATE past president of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Hajia Maryam Ladi Ibrahim, said the association has established seven accounting laboratories in Nigerian universities.

Ibrahim made this declaration in her valedictory speech on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of a new ANAN President, Alhaji Sakirudeen Labode.

The universities are: University of Jos, Bayero University, University of Abuja, Ahmadu Bello University, Usman Dan Fodio University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and the University of Uyo.

She said the laboratories were in addition to that of the Nigerian College of Accountancy (NCA), Jos, a post-graduate training arm of the association.

Listing her achievements, Ibrahim said the association also improved in collaborative efforts with universities and polytechnics where the college took its students.

The former ANAN president noted that the association also donated books to 15 universities and polytechnics, saying that besides taking awareness campaign to many universities and polytechnics, the association has taken the campaign outside Nigeria.

According to her, “the association gained itself the following recognitions: International Federation of Accountants (IFAC); Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA); and the Association of Accounting Bodies of West Africa (ABWA).

She also said the association has gained regional and international integration with the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria; Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), IFAC, PAFA, ABWA, International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER) and Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) Nigerian project.

Ibrahim also said the post-graduate arm’s Research Coordinating Committee has established Research Centres in Kogi State University, University of Jos Centre for Accounting Post-Graduate Research and the ANAN Research Centre at the Nasarawa State University, which was established by her predecessor.

“The association has also established international and national collaboration with Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA), U.K; South African Institute of Professional Accountants ((SAIPA); ICT University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; Edinburg Group; and ENS Forensics, South Africa,” Ibrahim added.

Other collaborations are with the Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA), Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) in Ireland; Enterprise Worldwide Group for networking towards assisting the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs; training of ANAN practitioners for tertiary institutions’ accreditation; and e-learning platform that would be donated to the association by ICT University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.
