Bala confirmed as Censors Board DG

Acting Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Ms. Patricia Bala has been confirmed into the proper headship of the Board.
Sources revealed that Bala, who resumed the leadership of the Board in acting capacity last year, received the confirmation letter from the office of the Secretary to the Federal Government on Tuesday, before proceeding to the Council of Information Ministers’ conference holding in Osogbo, Osun State currently.
Bala, who was the most senior director at NFVCB, and in charge of verification and classification, was appointed by the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku as acting Director-General on August 7, 2012, following the expiration of the seven-year tenure of former helmsman, Mr. Emeka Mba.
An overwhelmed Bala, The Nation gathered, took her appointment letter with her to the Oshogbo conference, happy that the confirmation she had longed for, has come to fruition.
The post of the Censors Board D-G had been competitive, with several practitioners in the movie industry bidding and lobbying for the job.
The new NFVCB boss had in August last year, promised to stabilise the Nigerian movie and video industry, and put it on the path of growth by collaborating with various stakeholders that could engender confidence and help stabilise the industry.

Bala was born in Garkawa, Mikang LGA of Plateau State. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Convent School, St Louis College all in Jos, School of Basic Studies (ABU) and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, graduating with BA Hons degree in Drama in 1975.
