Cleric tasks Nigerians on peace, Methodist Church marks fifth anniversary

AS Christians begin the Lenten season, the Primate of Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide, Archbishop I.M. Akinadewo, has urged Nigerians to dedicate their lives to God and seek peace always.

Meanwhile, the Methodist Church, Nigeria Diocese of Lagos-West, will on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Methodist Church, Opebi, Lagos, by 10.00 a.m., celebrate its fifth anniversary of being a diocese.

In a statement from the international headquarters of the church in Ondo, Ondo State, Archbishop Akinadewo said there would be peace in the country if all Nigerians followed the biblical teaching of Jesus Christ, which says that “we should love our neighbours as ourselves”.

The cleric also advised Nigerians to respect those in authority for the country to move forward.

The ceremony will be rounded off with a thanksgiving special service of prayers for national leaders and the excellent leadership award.

According to the chief celebrant, the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Isaac Ayo Olawuyi: “This anniversary thanksgiving is special in all ramifications to us as a church where we are to celebrate God’s blessing on us as individuals and more importantly, to our immediate environment where we worship since this diocese was created”.

The Lay President of the Diocese, Godwin Adewumi, equally added that the Diocese, to the glory of God, since its creation, had been able to achieve a lot in terms of spiritual growth and expansion.

“Church planting, which impacts directly and spiritually to the immediate environs of wherever the church is established, has been one of the success factors of the diocese”, he said.

The Lagos-West Diocese was adjudged the best in the whole of the Methodist Church Nigeria in 2010.
