CPC leaders to endorse merger plan with ACN, others Wednesday

CPC-LOGOTHE Board of Trustees of the Congress for Progressives Congress, (CPC) will be meeting on Wednesday in Abuja to, among other issues, endorse the proposed merger with the Action Congress Of Nigeria, (ACN) and other progressives to ensure that power is wrestled from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.

National Leader and Chairman of the party’s BOT chairman, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, has initiated a merger plan with the ACN in the series of his private meetings with the ACN National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, in his efforts to ensure that the opposition parties present a strong and single candidate that would wrestle power from the PDP in the next general election.

The meeting, The Guardian gathered, is expected to deliberate on the terms that the CPC would present before the other parties for the actualisation of the merger plan.

Confirming the meeting of the CPC to The Guardian, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Rotimi Fashakin, noted that the party would be ratifying its terms and proposals for the merger plan with the ACN and other parties at the BOT meeting, adding that while the CPC would obey all the provisions for the actualisation of the plan, it would also make it clear that not all the political parties that have so far indicated interest in the proposed merger would be given the opportunity to join the mega alliance that is expected to emerge for the 2015 elections.

He also disclosed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the CPC which met Tuesday had given its blessings to the plans of the CPC leader to bring all the progressive parties together for the purpose of stopping the PDP in 2015, debunking reports that the CPC NEC was not in support of the plan.

“The BOT of our party will be meeting Wednesday, (Today) in Abuja to ratify and endorse its terms for the proposed merger with the other progressives. This has become very necessary because of the evil which the ruling PDP has continued to perpetuate in the country. The various progressive minded parties in the country have come together to reason that this evil in PDP must be stopped and not be allowed to go beyond 2015.  Our Party’s NEC has already met and endorsed the plans of the national leader of the CPC to pursue the merger plan with the ACN and other parties that have shown interest in the merger,” Fashakin said.
