CPC planning to destabilize Nigeria – PDP say

ABUJA – THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday alleged that it has uncovered plots by the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC to destabilize Nigeria.

The party has called on security agencies to be alert and monitor the activities of CPC and its members, especially against the backdrop of  present security challenges in the country, just as it called on Nigerians to rise to the defence of those elected by them.

According to PDP, with CPC’s failure to bring down the President Goodluck Jonathan-led government with the post-election violence, the opposition party has now devised what the PDP described a three-pronged approach to cause confusion and crisis in Nigeria, and make it ungovernable.

In a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, the party said, ‘’these methods include; a concerted campaign to discredit the judiciary, flying dangerous kites like impeachment of the President, and mass action to tarnish the image of the Federal Government if these options fail.”

‘’Given the consequences of previous threats by the CPC, we view their current posturing seriously and call on law enforcement agencies to be alert and monitor activities of this group, especially against the background of present security challenges in the country.

‘’The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, wishes to once again draw the attention of Nigerians to yet another threat to the peace and stability of Nigeria by the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.

‘’Nigerians will recall with deep regret that the unfortunate circle of violence that broke out in the country after the last general elections was incited by inflammatory statements by leaders of the CPC during their campaigns”.
