According to Garba Shehu, the presidential media aide, Buhari expressed his sympathies in a telephone call to President Idriss Deby, at 5:30pm on Wednesday, June 17.

The president said: “Chad has been in the frontline of the regional fight against the Boko Haram terrorists. They have stood by us through the worst and most difficult times of the challenges we have faced with terrorism. You also have our support during this difficult time.”

Buhari added that it was sad and disgraceful that the insurgents had extended their cruel cowardice to the neighbouring country, but expressed hope that it was only a matter of time before the terrorists would be crushed and dealt with.

Nigeria’s leader assured the people of Borno state of the commitment of his government to degrade the insurgency which had required the relocation of the command centre of the military to its epicentre.

Crushing Boko Haram will remain a priority of my government,” President Buhari concluded.
