Enugu State shuts down 68 private schools

ENUGU State government is to spend over N113 million to purchase 1,040 dumpsters (refuse bins) to further enhance refuse disposal in the urban areas of the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Chuks Ugwuoke, who announced this at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Enugu, said the council also approved the closure of additional 68 privately-owned primary and secondary schools in Enugu and Awgu Educational Zones of the state for failing to meet the minimum standards set by the government for their operation.

He explained that some of the schools operated without government’s approval while others operated in shanties and ramshackle accommodation.

This brings to 151 the number of schools that have been shut in the state this year.
