Ex-director canvasses more funds for orientation agency

FORMER Anambra State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof. Gabriel Unachukwu, has called on the Federal Government to adequately fund the body to enable it sensitise Nigerians on the socio- economic and political issues affecting the nation.

Unachukwu also appealed to NOA officials to impact positive changes in the attitude and behaviour of Nigerians with the aim of moving the country forward.

Speaking at a luncheon organised by Committee of Friends in Awka yesterday in honour of Geoff Ogbalu, who retired as the Anambra State NOA’s director, Unachukwu described Ogbalu as a humane and career civil servant who rose from the ladder.

He advised Ogbalu to apply the wealth of experience gained in service to make useful impact wherever he found himself, adding that ample opportunities abound outside the civil service.

Unachukwu further advised him to make judicious use of his pension and gratuity benefits for future plans, reminding him that he was venturing into the unknown.

Earlier, the General Manager, Transport Corporation of Anambra State (TRACAS), Mr. Tony Iieka, noted that Ogbalu retired without blemish in a country where some public officers had dented their image with corrupt practices.

He called on the workers of NOA, especially Ogbalu’s successor, to emulate the legacies he left behind, as well as explore other ways to improve their services to the public.
