Fire guts students’ hostel in Dutse

A FIRE outbreak, which occurred at about 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, has razed a students’ hostel at Dutse Model International School in Jigawa State capital.

The inferno, which occurred while students were in the Mosque observing the Mangrib prayer, did not claim any live but destroyed property.

The school’s principal, Zainab Umar Usman, said the cause of the fire was still unknown, but said that it may have been triggered by an electrical fault.

According to one of the victims Muhammad Nasiru Abubakar: “I have lost everything; my text books, notebooks, uniforms and even my provision.”

Abubakar, who was left with only the clothes that he was putting on before the incident, said his main worry was the forthcoming examinations, saying, “how will I get the notes to prepare for my exams.”

He, however, took solace in the fact that no life was lost or did anyone get injured in the burnt hostel.
