Fire guts Zenith bank, NAF Base, others in Lagos

No fewer than four buildings were on Thursday razed by inferno in different parts of Lagos.

According to the state fire service, the Air Force Base located beside the National Open University in Victoria Island,Lagos, was razed on Wednesday night and this affected three offices.

Other structures razed by inferno on Thursday are – Zenith Bank building at 87, Ajose Adeogun, Victoria Island, 70, Adewole Street, Ikotun and 1B, Niyi Adedeji Street, Ogudu.

The Nation gathered that the Zenith Bank fire which started at about 4:12pm affected one of the offices in the third floor.

Although the cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, firemen however suspected electrical surge.

Confirming the outbreaks, the Director of the state Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe and Southwest Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said no casualty was recorded.

Fadipe said it took firemen over two hours to contain each of the outbreaks, adding that the incidents were caused by carelessness.

He said: “Yes we received fire call on Zenith bank but not the headquarters. The fire affected one of the branches on Ajose Adeogun and severely damaged equipment and one of the rooms on the third floor.

“No injury was recorded and it was not in the banking hall. I don’t think customers are received on that floor. Computers and other office equipments were damaged.

“For the Ikotun fire, a mini flat was completely razed and other three rooms.

“We also received fire alert at Niyi Adedeji Street, near Mr. Biggs in Ogudu and it affected the topmost floor of the building. “
