Gaidam signs 2012 budget, tasks MDAs on probity

GOVERNOR Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has assented to the N78.55 billion 2012 budget into law, urging Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to abide by their budgetary allocations to ensure transparency and accountability .

Assenting to the budget at the weekend at the Government House, Damaturu, Gaidam said that the Yobe State House of Assembly, however, increased the budget by N1 billion for the execution of capital projects initially not covered in the appropriation bill presented last month .

He said with these developments, the total recurrent expenditure stood at N30.405 billion, while N48.144 was allocated to capital expenditure.

On the implementation of the budget, he said: “The full implementation of this appropriation bill will be in accordance with our budgetary priorities and in compliance with the financial rules and regulations by MDAs .”

He added that the MDAs were to strictly comply with this year’s budgetary provisions and spend funds consistent with the legal appropriation for each item.

The measures, he explained, were to ensure accountability, efficiency, probity and transparency in the conduct of government business.

Defending the budget increase, from N77.55 billion to N78.55 billion, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adamu Dala Dogo said, “there was an upward review of the budget size by N1 billion to enable for the provision of more dividend of democracy to the people of the state.”
