Gombe plans special hospital for women, kids

GOMBE State government is planning to establish an ultra-modern women and children’s hospital in the metropolis to curb the rising wave of mortality and morbidity among women and children.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kennedy Ishaya, announced this when he called on the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar, in his palace.

Ishaya said the hospital, when established, would be provided with specialised personnel and state-of-the-art facilities.

He expressed happiness that no case of polio virus had been recorded in the state within the past 24 months, appealing to the emir to assist in ensuring compliance with the government directives towards eradicating the disease in places where there is resistance.

The emir called for upgrading of structures and provision of sophisticated equipment and personnel in all government’s hospitals.

He commended the government’s effort at providing specialised ambulances that would assist in healthcare delivery in rural areas and those in critical conditions.
