Group Seeks Appointment Of Youths Into Jonathan’s Cabinet

AS President Goodluck Jonathan shops for eligible Nigerians to fill the gap created in his cabinet following his recent sack of some ministers, a political group in the South West, Network For Justice (NFJ), has urged him to consider appointing youths into the positions.

The group, in a statement Friday, noted that the president needed to inject young blood into his cabinet to carry through the transformation agenda of his administration.

The statement signed by the group’s Coordinator, Dr. Adebisi Akinbinu, noted that the step is particularly imperative in the Lagos State where the old war horses in the state are irreconcilably divided and cannot be relied upon to deliver the state in 2015.

Against this backdrop, NFJ called on President Jonathan to consider appointing Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro as a minister in his cabinet, noting that  “the youthful vibrancy, resourcefulness and grassroots political clout of the younger Obanikoro stands him out in the state chapter of the party.”

The group also pointed out that the popularity of the younger Obanikoro was evident in his aborted victory in the last local council election in the state.

“Most people feel he was robbed and abandoned by the PDP in his fight to reclaim his mandate from the ACN. He is regarded as his own man and not a stooge for his father.

“He has a stronger Lagos State PDP sympathisers. They all contributed to his success in the local government election and can do the same if he becomes a minister.

He will serve as positive neutral rallying point for the party to re-focus and strengthen itself for the upcoming election,” NFJ said.
