Group Warns Against Attacks On Lai Mohammed

A group known as the Kwara concerned citizens has warned against needless attacks on the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed for carrying out his duties.

Last week, some kinsmen of Lai Mohammed who identified themselves as community leaders and elders of thought in Oro Kingdom, berated the national publicity secretary over his  opposition to the election of Senator Bukola Saraki as the president of the 8th Senate of the National Assembly.

The elders of criticised the party’s spokesperson for opposing a credible and democratic process that saw the emergence of Senator Saraki, who they said was responsible for Mohammad’s selection as the sole candidate of Kwara State into the APC National Executive Council (NEC).

Reacting to the attack on the Lai Mohammed, the Kwara concerned citizens in a statement raised concerns that some persons in Kwara state were for no justifiable reason attacking the APC spokesman.

According to The Nation, it described the elders who attacked Lai Mohammed as a self-serving group which does not reflect that of the majority of the good people of Kwara.

The concerned citizens passed a vote of confidence on Lai Mohammed for carrying out his duties in ways it described as the courageous, loyal, descent and professional.

It wondered why the APC spokesperson should be subjected to scatting remarks when the views and opinions expressed by Lai Mohammed in his statements are not his own.

“It is therefore unfair, illogical and downright simplistic to conclude that Lai Mohammed’s statement conveying the immediate reaction of his party to the elections in the National Assembly means he is opposed to the election of his kinsman, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as the President of the Senate,” the group stated

Adding that: What was he expected to do in the circumstances? Refuse to carry out his duty as the APC spokesman just because of the involvement of his kinsman in the Senate leadership election? Infuse his own feelings and opinion into his party’s statement so that he won’t be seen as opposing his kinsman? Or issue his own statement reflecting his personal opinion, as against that of his party?

The group cautioned persons against trying to score cheap political points by demonising Lai Mohammed for the performance of his duties as party spokesman.
