How PDP can make Nigeria great, by Lamido

PDP_News_11-4-11THROUGH good governance and promotion of intra-party democracy, Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State believes that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can still make Nigeria a great country again.

He asserted that the PDP remains the only party with the leadership required by Nigeria to overcome its daunting challenges.

The governor said this when he voted along with 238 accredited PDP delegates from 11 wards of Birnin Kudu Local Council in Saturday’s congress of the party. He voted with other delegates in his Chiyako ward and charged the new party executives to work towards upholding the values of the PDP in the area.

Those elected were Alhaji Abdulwahab Yahaya Soli as chairman; Sanusi Usman, deputy chairman; Aliyu Baita, secretary and Hajia Maryam Kumbura as women leader, while Alhaji Magaji Power emerged the national delegate.

Other PDP leaders at the congress were former governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Sa’adu, Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, Alhaji Shittu Muhammad Wurno and former commissioner for agriculture, Alhaji Nasidi Ali.

Chairman of the PDP Monitoring Committee for the state congress, Mr. Adebola Kesha, praised the party faithful over the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Kesha described the PDP-led administration in the state as a symbol of development.

In Taraba State, the PDP Chairman, Dr. Abdulmumuni Vaki, has admonished the party’s supporters to eschew all acts that could jeopardise the success of the congress.

Vaki made the appeal yesterday in Jalingo, the state capital, during an interaction with journalists.

He declared his readiness to work with the aspirants who would emerge as the next executive of the party in the state.

Vaki said he would not seek for re-election having occupied the office for 10 years, declaring that he would not be pressured into the race.

“I have already made up my mind not to re-contest for the chairmanship position of our great party at the state level.

“Though those loyalists, as I learnt, have gone as far as using their money to buy form for me, I think they would do me good by pushing me to serve at the national or zonal level of our party”, he added.

The Guardian learnt that four persons are jostling for the position of the state chairman of the party.
