Lagos lawmaker escapes assassination attempt
LAGOS—A Lagos lawmaker, Mr. Sakiru Osinowo, Thursday, explained how he narrowly escaped assassination attempt on his life, calling on the Special Anti-Robbery Squad arm of the Nigeria Police to hasten investigation into the matter.
The suspected gunmen, according to him, invaded his house in Ogudu GRA, Kosofe Local Government Area of the state but that they ran out of luck.
Osinowo, who spoke on the floor of the House, said the two-man gang was overpowered by the people in the estate.
The gunmen, it was gathered were caught with guns and ammunition and have since been handed over to the police.
However, the lawmaker has expressed shock that since their arrest, the police were yet to release their findings.
He said: “There was need for the police to resolve the mystery behind the attack. What was their mission and who sent them?”
Speaker of the Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, called on the relevant security authorities to expedite action on the matter. This, according to him, had became imperative to justify the confidence the people repose in the police.
Relatedly, the Assembly has called on Lagos and Ogun state governments to beef up security on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The Assembly also condoled with the family of the slain police officer, Mr. John Ibisugbe and her 23-year-old daughter by suspected gunmen in Ogun State.
Ibisugbe was attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Area F, Nigeria Police, Lagos State.
