Navy nabs 2 suspects over illegal oil bunkering

Calabar— Nigerian Navy has arrested two persons suspected to be involved in illegal bunkering in Calabar creeks.

Meanwhile, Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, Eastern Com-mand, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, has warned pirates, mili-tants, pipeline vandals and illegal bunkers operating in the Command’s territorial waters to desist from such act.

Admiral Jibrin, who spoke when he took delivery of six attack patrol boats donated by the Federal and Cross River State governments, weekend, assured Nigerians that the Navy will ensure that the maritime boundaries were secured.

While briefing newsmen on the arrest of the two illegal oil bunkerers at NNS Victory Jetty, Calabar, Navy Commodore Kingdom Itoko, Commanding Officer of NNS Victory, said about 10 persons were involved in the illegal business but that eight escaped. He did not disclose the identities of those arrested.

He said they were on the trail of those that escaped, adding that the two that were arrested would soon be handed over to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

According to Itoko, his men used minimal force to over power the two suspects who were allegedly caught in the act.
