Nigeria donates logistic materials for Liberian elections

Abidjan- Nigerian government has donated 10 Toyota, Double Cabin pickups, 30 computers and two giant photocopiers to the Liberian electoral commission to support the country’s presidential elections.

The Liberian presidential elections will be held on Oct. 11, 2011.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cote d’ Ivoire Kayode Obajuluwa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abidjan that the trucks were received in Abidjan last week on their way to Monrovia.

“The pickup vehicles, computers and photocopiers were brought to the embassy, before they proceeded to Monrovia last week,’’ he said.

Obajuluwa said the Nigeria had played a major role in ensuring a return to democracy in Liberia  and would continue to support the country for a peaceful and transparent transition.

The Liberian National Electoral Commission (NEC) issued a statement on Monday that the logistic materials were delivered to the commission by the Charge d’ Affairs of the Nigerian embassy in Monrovia, Mike Omotosho.

According to the statement, the NEC Chairman, James Fromayan, lauded the government and people of Nigeria for the gesture and assured them that the donation would be used judiciously.
