Nigeria govt assures prevention of cancer, to open more centres

ABUJA — The Federal Government yesterday said it was committed to the prevention and management of cancer, with plans to establish more centres in tertiary institutions in the country.

Minister of State for Health, Dr Muhammed Ali Pate, made this known when he received officials of the West African Division of International Academy of Pathology, WADIAP .

This came as WADIAP has indicated interest in partnering with the Federal ministry of health to improve the capacity of health officials on cancer prevention and management.

The minister also said the Federal Ministry of Health had embarked on immunization against preventable diseases such as measles, polio, among others.

Speaking earlier, President of the organisation, Prof Olufemi Ogunbiyi, said WADIAP was interested in partnering with Federal Government in capacity building for health officials on cancer prevention and management.

Prof Ogunbiyi also informed the minister that WADIAP planned to hold its 6th annual conference in Nigeria, adding that the conference would focused on role of pathologists in prevention, diagnosis and prognostication of cancer.
