Nigerian heads United Nations’ food security panel

A NIGERIAN, Mr. Yaya Olanilam, has been elected as the Chairman  of  the  United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS) for the next two years.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) disclosed this yesterday in Rome after a meeting held to set recommendations aimed at reducing food price volatility and enhancing vulnerable populations’ resilience to price  shocks  as agreed on by the Committee on World Food Security (CFS).

According  to  a statement  by the FAO, Olanilam was elected to succeed Mr. Noel De Luna of the Philippines. The  CFS also approved a proposal to organise a high-level forum on food security in countries with protracted crises, with a view to elaborating an “Agenda for Action.”

CFS is the foremost inclusive international and intergovernmental platform for all stakeholders to work together to ensure food security and nutrition for all. During its 37th session, the committee tackled important food security issues including food price volatility, investment in smallholder agriculture and gender, food security and nutrition.
