Oyo State launches free health program

“The state government targets at least 60,000 persons.” 

The Oyo state government in conjunction with Development Support Initiatives has launched a free health program tagged “Oyo State Free Health Mission”.

Governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, while speaking at the kick-off of the program, said that it is targeted at reaching not less than 60,000 people in the state.

A total of 107 medical personnel were hired, which included surgeons, dentists, pharmacists and other paramedics.

The governor said that among the health problems to be tackled are diabetes, hypertension, optical and dental complications, and HIV/AIDS. He also said that optical and dental surgeries will be done for free, including distribution of glasses to optically challenged persons.

Also included in the scheme of the program is counseling families on birth control measures, advise of teenagers on unwanted pregnancy.

According to the Ajimobi, the program will be in phases, with the first phase covering 33 Local Government Area’s (LGA) of the state with 11 local council areas.
