Police, taxi drivers unite against crime in Abuja

RISING crime activities on transit in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are being confronted by the police with support from taxi operators and owners.

The Taxi Owners and Drivers Welfare Association (TODWA) under the initiative would sensitise the public through a campaign being mounted against crimes such as robbery, Advanced Fee Fraud (419) and One Chance (luring passengers into vehicles and robbing them).

The campaign began with a rally at the old Parade Ground, Area 11 of the FCT, where taxi drivers and the police educated residents on the antics of criminals.

The President of TODWA, Samuel Onyemeji, said the campaign was meant to check the excesses of criminals who disguise as taxi drivers.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mike Zuokomor said the campaign was another form of community policing, which should be encouraged.
