The presidency has dismissed the rumours being circulated that Muhammadu Buhari refused to move into Aso Villa because of the advice from Senegalese spiritualists.

It had been earlier reported that a team of Senegalese marabouts intended to carry out the spiritual cleansing of the villa before Buhari moved in.

However, Malam Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity, made a statement, saying that the presidency expressed “utter embarrassment at such suggestion”. He stressed that Buhari is a practicing Muslim who believes his fate belongs to God.

According to the statement, no true believer combines faith in God and reliance on the power of ordinary mortals, who can’t protect themselves from the hands of fate.

Malam Shehu insisted that the so-called spiritual cleansing of the Aso Rock Villa was the figment of the imagination of rumour mongers.

The president’s spokesperson said that renovation works in the villa was largely responsible for the delay in Buhari’s movement into the state house.

While the president currently operates from Defence House, Osinbajo is said to be residing in a private residence. Ahead of their relocation, it has been  gathered that there is an ongoing inter-agency cold war on who will be in charge of the president’s security.
