Read What Nigerian Children Expect From Buhari

Former President of the National Children’s Parliament, Ibrahim Abudullahi has tasked President Buhari to prioritise the rights and development of children in the country.

Abdullahi, an advocate of children’s right said Nigerian children play significant roles in the fight against corruption in the country.

Speaking with The News, he explained that fighting corruption requires attitudinal change and the best way to realizing this is to focus on early development of children with a mindset that condemns corruption ‘’The Nigeria handed over to President Buhari can be said to be at zero level. This means rebuilding the process has to start from the foundation, which in my own opinion is represented by children that I see as the building blocks of a new Nigeria’’ he said.

Setting agenda for Buhari, Abdullahi said the president’s agenda for children should be focused on ensuring access to free and qualitative education for Nigerian children.

He added that it will be imperative for Buhari’s administration to introduce effective school feeding programme for children and provide adequate infrastructures for primary health care to prevent mothers losing their children at birth.

Abdullahi advocated for the implementation of the Child Rights Acts which provide children right to survival, protection from violence, development including education and leisure, as well as participation on issues affecting them. ‘’Mrs Aisha has reiterated that the Buhari-led government will focus on the development of Nigerian child and particularly the the efeective implementation of Child Rights Act across the country,’’ he said
