Speaker wants child rights law implemented

THE Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, David Iorhemba, has advocated the implementation of the Child Rights Act signed into law by the state government.

Iorhemba, who made the call when he received members of the Benue State Children’s Parliament in his office, expressed hope that this would help in checking the violation of the rights of the Benue child.

The Speaker frowned at the prevalent cases of child abuse in the state and urged the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to champion the implementation of the Child Rights Act by Governor Gabriel Suswam.

While lauding the planned setting up of Child Rights Clubs in post-primary schools across the state by the children’s parliament, the Speaker cautioned against turning such clubs into cults, saying this would rather expose the children to more dangers.
