(Breaking News) Not less than three people were confirmed dead as rival cult groups clashed in the Wadata area of Makurdi, Benue State capital during the yuletide celebration.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ejike Alaribe who confirmed this in a telephone chat with The Guardian yesterday, disclosed that 52 persons had already been arrested.
Alaribe said the cult groups had on Christmas Eve engaged in a battle in Wadata area during which one person was killed. He added that another clash took place on Christmas night in the same area leaving two others killed.
The PPRO also confirmed that there were cult clashes in Kanshio, Wurukum and Modern Market, adding that the police had intensified surveillance in the areas.
“The new Commissioner of Police has ordered that surveillance should be intensified in these areas that are dens of cult groups. Our men are on top of the situation. We will raid these areas and apprehend all of them,” he vowed.
