Two suspected robbers killed in bank raid

TWO suspected armed robbers and a resident were feared dead and others wounded yesterday when a gang of bandits invaded Ugep in Yakurr Local Council of Cross River State.

Witnesses of the incident said the hoodlums had successfully robbed their victims in Ikom and attempted to raid a first generation bank in Ugep where they were resisted by security operatives.

The Guardian learnt that the robbers, who came in three vehicles, attempted to enter the bank but were challenged by security personnel and residents.

A native of the area, who allegedly dared the robbers by using charms as his “bullet-proof vest” died from a volley of bullets pumped into him by the robbers.

But the youths in the area, who were not happy with police response, stormed their station and vandalised it.

The Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey confirmed the robbery attack.
