Why Buhari Must Appoint PDP Members As Ministers- Musa

Alhaji Balarabe Musa, former governor of Kaduna state, has advised president Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure that he appoints ministers and other government functionaries from the opposition parties.

Musa, who made this appeal to the president during an interview with Punch on Wednesday, June 10, noted that government of national unity should be paramount in his agenda.

While berating the winner-takes-all political culture in the country, Musa said:“President Muhammadu Buhari should form a government of national unity. He should appoint ministers and government functionaries, not only from the APC but from the Peoples Democratic Party and other opposition parties.”

Musa also tasked the governors Mohammed Abubakar and Mallam Nasir el-Rufai of Bauchi and Kaduna states respectively to disclose their full entitlements instead of merely announcing0 a 50% reduction in their salaries.

“The recent announcement of a slash in salaries by El-Rufai and Abubakar is too symbolic. What about other remuneration they get besides salaries? We have to know about all the governor gets, not just salaries. It is not really commendable. It is not enough. It is politically distracting.

“Let the two governors reveal the whole entitlement that they get, including salaries. They should let us know what each governor costs the state,”  he said.

Only a few days ago, reports surfaced that president Buhari snubbed the leadership of his party to consult former president Goodluck Jonathan over the appointment of ministers.
