Woman, 54, docked for child stealing

The Police in Oyo State on Thursday arraigned a 54-year-old woman in Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan for alleged child stealing.

The suspect, Sakirat Akinyemi of no fixed address, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and child stealing.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Adewale Amos, told the court that Akinyemi and others now at large allegedly committed the offence on May 26, 2015

Amos said that Akinyemi allegedly stole a minor, Mubarak Hassan, 2, at about 7:00 p.m., at Okeseni area, Ibadan.

He said the offence contravened sections 371 (2) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap.38, Vol. 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The prosecutor said the offence attracted 14 years jail term if Akinyemi was found guilty of the charge.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties who should be blood relations with functional bank accounts.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until July 20, for mention.
