Atiku Abubakar, Femi Fani-Kayode Congratulate New National Assembly Leaders

Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former vice president, and Femi Fani-Kayode, the ex director of Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign, congratulated the new leaders of the National Assembly.

The two officials issued two separate statements following the today’s election of Bukola Saraki as the Senate president and Yakubu Dogara as the House of Representatives speaker.

In his address Atiku urged both politicians to see their election beyond the narrow interests of respective parties, Premium Times reports. The official noted that Saraki and Dogara should focus on the national interests adding that with their election, the 8th National Assembly has prepared the ground work for a full legislative business.

“The Nigerian people look up to the new National Assembly to work with the executive arm in finding solutions to the problems of insecurity, poverty, illiteracy and joblessness in the country. Their election is indeed a call to duty, and it is a call for which they cannot afford to fail the nation.”

Fani-Kayode, on his part, used his Facebook account to congratulate the elected politicians.

“Congrats to Senator Bukola Saraki on his election as Senate President today and to Senator Ekweremadu on his election as Deputy Senate President.

“My heart goes out to my brother Hon. Femi Gbajamilla on the outcome of the election for Speaker of the House of Reps. Though he lost, he fought a good fight and I am very proud of him.”

President Muhammadu Buhari in his comments said that the constitutional process had occurred and urged all the elected representatives to focus on bringing the positive change to the lives of Nigerians.
