Since the beginning of the 21st century, the dream and passion of most youths in Nigeria is to become a footballer with the ultimate goal of playing in Europe.

Ever since DSTV broke into Nigerian market, with Supersport to be precise, youths started developing this mad love for footballers and football clubs.

The love was so much that many can part their last cash to watch a football league match most especially if it involves a club they support. It keeps growing that some even name their babies after footballers.  Nigerian kids now bear names like Ronaldo, Fabrigas, Rooney etc.

Some even know quite obvious that they can’t play football; they still go to trainings believing that they will still play professional football. The rush to just be a Lionel Messi is just the in-thing

Then comes the era of social media/blogs where you are allowed to express whatever talents you’ve got. Where success or brilliance can be measured by the amount of likes you have on Facebook, twitter/Instagram followers and the tweets you drop.

Social media definitely gave birth to many music artistes and it seem like the easy way out. It will save you the rigours of going for trainings and the danger of having injuries while playing football and gradually youths started embracing music.

With a hit four minutes song you can become a star. Ask Kiss Daniel! Nigerian music industry is now flooded with upcoming artistes, with, many of them attempting to get to the mainstream in order to become superstars overnight.

One cannot definitely rule out the talented ones who drops quality contents but the teeming number of artistes is just ridiculous that one begin to wonder if youths now has any other life goals other than becoming a music star.

You just take a look around your compound how many artistes do you have there? How about your street? In your hood? The figure is alarming!

The big questions are, is it that football is no longer profitable? Or music stars are more appreciated than football stars? Is music the easiest way out? Lets get talking.
