Imo Assembly okays N10billion for infrastructure development

IMO State House of Assembly, numbering 26 members has recently granted approval for the executive arm to spend N10 billion for infrastructural development in the areas of health, education, housing, security, massive construction and rehabilitation of roads in the 27 local councils of the state among others.

The State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, had a few weeks ago asked for N5 billion approval and latter N12 billion loan sourcing from financial institutions. The requests were granted by the assembly members.

The Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Prof. Anthony Anwukah, had few days ago submitted to the assembly on behalf of Governor Rochas Okorocha for the utilization of such funds for the stated purposes, mainly for “urgent and critical areas of need”.

Same SGI had sent a proposal of about N190 billion for four-year -rolling plan for the development of the state.

Approving the said amount (N10 billion), the assembly members lead by Speaker Benjamin Uwajimogu, urged the executive arm to utilise the funds strictly for the purpose in which they were applied for and approved.

Also, the Imo State Tourism and Infrastructure development levies and other related matters” bill sponsored by the minority leader of the assembly, Mrs. Ngozi Pat-Ekeji has started deliberation.
