Lagos Police smash robbery gang and kidnappers
“The Lagos police say that they have killed an armed robber, and smashed a kidnapping gang.”
Police officers attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) police command Ikeja have killed a “notorious armed robber” simply identified as Tega.
Following investigations by the anti crime detectives, it was found that Mr. Tega had been on the wanted list of the police following series of robbery operations he allegedly masterminded in the state.
According to a police source who requested anonymity, “This same man known as Tega is the same person we have been looking for series of robbery in the same. His real name was Nnamdi Oluekwu Nnamdi and during a gun battle we gunned him down while he was shooting from the ceiling of his apartment.”
The police claimed that a robbery suspect, whom they alleged was a member of the gang, and who they simply identified as Henry Azubike, led them to Mr. Oluekwu’s residence at 13 Oladapo Street, Igando. However, Mr. Oluekwu climbed into the ceiling of the house, and from there began firing at the police. They returned fire, and in the ensuing gun battle, he was killed.
“We recovered one single barreled shotgun, and five live cartridges from the suspect’s hideout and his corpse has since been deposited at the public mortuary for autopsy,” our source said.
Kidnapping gang smashed
In another operation, the police arrested four men and a woman for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping and conspiracy. The suspects Ugochukwu, 24, Obiora Ikeduba, 25, Osondu Njoku, 26, Okoye Raphael, 23 and Chinasa Ozoemena, a female .
Miss Ozoemena, a secretary, allegedly led the others to the residence of the victim, John Ike Azota a 70 year old Nigerian who is based in London, and who during his visit to Nigeria was residing at Festac Town.
The police say that they recovered one Brownie pistol No. 30719876 and eight bullets. Sources said their victim was rescued .
The police claimed that their preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were notorious armed robbers and kidnappers
“They render kidnapping services to clients who want their people kidnapped, we are investigating the matter thoroughly,” said a detective at the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba where the suspects are being interrogated.
