Bauchi registers 82,000 farmers under FG’s scheme

MORE than 82,000 farmers have so far been registered in Bauchi State under the Federal Government’s pegged five million registrations of small-scale farmers nationwide.

This was made known by the General Manager of the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP), Dr. Aliyu Gital, during an interview with journalists in Bauchi.

He explained that the Federal Government directed registration of five million farmers by states in the federation through their respective Agricultural Development Programmes, in collaboration with Ministries of Agriculture, towards establishing farmers’ database for the country.

According to him, comprehensive database for the farmers is necessary to devise methods of fertiliser distribution and sales as government planned to remove subsidy on the commodity.

“This year, the Federal Government wants to gradually withdraw from subsidising fertilizer but their main reason was that the subsidy being given to the farmers doesn’t go to them the way it is intended”, Gital said.
