Three years after: Da Grin refuses to die

It’s been three years since Olaitan Olanipekun (Dagrin) passed on in a ghastly motor accident, but his brand and music refuse to die, especially in the indigenous Yoruba rap scene.

In 2010 he was nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Album (C.E.O.), Hottest Single “Kondo”, Best Rap Act and Best Collaboration with vocals. His album C.E.O. (Chief executive Omota) won the Hip hop World Award 2010 for best rap album. From it came the singles “Pon Pon Pon”, and “Kondo”.

Posthumously he won awards, movies about his life shot, and songs from more than a dozen artistes to his name with numerous mix tapes by DJ. Articles and editorials by journalists and bloggers are endless.

Today, many took to the social media to pay tribute once more. Check out few below and you can send yours as well, telling us your memory of him, his music and life. Twitter handle: @thenationnews
