2015: ‘How PDP can regain South-West’

NIGERIA POLITICS — A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Barrister Owolabi Salis, has urged the PDP leaders charged to reposition the party for victory in South-west in 2015  to make a success of their mission.

The Wall Street Attorney and finance technocrat  said the call became necessary in view of the fact that PDP is a symbol of unity in diversity, “which is one of the cardinal visions of our  founding fathers”.

He referred to the statement by the acting national chairman of the  PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, that the loss of Lagos State in the last general elections  was a great source of pain to the party leadership, and, therefore, said  the committee  should  work assiduously to ensure that the party wins the Lagos guber poll by a landslide in 2015.

The philanthropist-politician, who pilots the Operation Rescue Lagos initiative, stated  that the electoral success of the PDP in the South-west was vital  in view of the pivotal significance of the zone to the larger politics of  Nigeria.

“It is my plea that the committee should find a way of effectively reconciling aggrieved parties in various states of the federation, in order to forge a concerted front for a landslide victory at the polls in 2015”, Salis stated.

The two-time gubernatorial contender in Lagos State also expressed need for the committee, not only to evolve a formula for free and fair primaries, but to also ensure that the best and strongest candidate will always emerge as the PDP flag-bearer at every level of election, “because the victory of any PDP flag-bearer at the polls is the victory of the entire party as a whole, irrespective of the contending intra-party caucuses”.

Meanwhile, Salis has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his great strides in one hundred days in office, to establish a firm footing which are fundamental to the  success of his administration.

According to him, Jonathan deserved to be praised for the remarkable depth of reflection which informed the selection of his “economic team which ranks among the best in the world”.

“I knew from the authority of an insider that the economic team, which comprises Okonjo Iweala, Atedo Peterside, Dangote, among others, are among the best crop of experts, you could ever hope to assemble”, Salis, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and a top flight management consultant, added.
