Govt To Train Corps Members On Skills Acquisition

THE Federal Government  is to train about 40,000 youth corps members nationwide in the area of skills acquisition and self-reliance before the end of the year.

Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties and Social Development, Mrs. Sarah Akuben Pane disclosed this at the ‘Discovery Empowerment Programme for National Youth Service Corps’ held in Abuja on Thursday.

“We have refocused our energies to train 4,000 corps members serving in the FCT, and 1,000 from each of the 36 states of the federation before December 30, 2012, with the view of giving them the required skill to be self-reliant and not depend on government employment.

“Considering the challenges faced by Nigerian youths with respect to unemployment, poverty and social insecurity, it will be instructive for corporate bodies and other well meaning Nigerians to support the initiative given that the Federal government cannot give all the youth employment at the same time,” she said.
