Agbado Oke-Odo Council chair appeals judgment

The chairman, Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Dr. Augustine Arogundade, yesterday flied an appeal in the Lagos Appeal Court, challenging the nullification of his election into office on October 22, 2011 by the Justice Ade Awobiyi-led Election Tribunal on Thursday.

The tribunal had, in its judgment on Thursday, voided the certificate of return earlier issued to Arogundade, the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), adding that the poll was won by Arogundade’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Busari Akande.

In a swift reaction early yesterday, Arogundade filed an appeal against the judgment at the Appeal Court, expressing assurances that ultimately, he and his supporters would laugh.

Speaking on the development, Arogundade told The Nation yesterday: “We have filed an appeal against the tribunal’s judgment this morning in Lagos. And the higher court has set aside the judgment of the lower court until the determination of the case. There is no cause for alarm; we are in full control.”
