107 benefit from Ondo health scheme

SUCCOR has come the way of 107 persons who needed expensive medical attention in Ondo State as the government last week disbursed N53 million to take care of their medical needs in a special programme targeted at the indigent population.

Under the initiative, which the state government embarks on annually, sick people who cannot afford the cost of treatment of their ailments are selected for the high profile intervention, which also includes sponsoring such treatments outside the shores of the country.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, while presenting the cheques to beneficiaries, said the initiative was part of government’s efforts at assisting the people to get access to adequate medical care.

According to him, the beneficiaries of the gesture had been found to be in need of the assistance of the government to foot their medical bills and contribute their quotas to the development of the state.

The commissioner, who reiterated the determination of the government to provide easy and affordable healthcare services to the people of the state without consideration for political affiliation, said apart from serving as a form of social service for the people, the gesture also constitutes empowerment for the people as it would enable them to be productive in the society.
