Suntai tasks PDP on May 12 council polls

AHEAD of the forthcoming local council polls slated for May 12 in Taraba State, a call has gone to the new executive members of the state chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure total success for the party at the election.

The call came from the state Governor Danbaba Suntai during the inauguration of the new executives of the party at the Jolly Nyame stadium yesterday.   He challenged the new executive members of the party to go down to the grassroots to canvass votes from the electorate.

Expressing confidence in the elected chairman of the party, Victor Bala Kona, the governor enjoined him to mobilise his executive members to reach out to the people and solicit votes that would ensure victory for the party at the forthcoming councils election.

Stressing the need to eschew acts that would cause  violence , Suntai who sounded positive, said that the  leadership of the party at the state level would deliver the party at the council poll.

He said: “Thank God for giving us a formidable team of PDP executives at both the zonal and state levels. I have absolute confidence in the executive members. I am therefore challenging them to go out and solicit votes from the people and ensure victory for the party at the coming local government election.”

For his part, the new party chairman, Victor Bala Kona, reiterated his readiness to embark on a reconciliation meeting with all the aggrieved members of the party by ensuring an open door policy for all members.

“We seek an open door policy, open to all our members, open for the exchange of ideas, a brand new PDP in which nobody, great or small will be left behind.”

He added that the executive would “try as much as possible to make no one our enemy.”

Bala stressed the need to  “learn to go forward together with all peace-loving members of our great party” and to extend the hands of friendship to all and sundry.

He said that those willing to join the party were welcome and urged those already in the PDP  to  cooperate to “strengthen the existing structures of our great party so that we can lift up our chances of winning the forthcoming local government council elections.”

The north-east zonal chairman, Mohammed G. Lawal, urged the people of the state to support the  governor in order to help in taking  the state to the greatest height.

The new leadership of the party at the state, zonal and federal levels, according to Lawal, would work tirelessly to instill discipline in the party as well as encourage dialogue with aggrieved members.

The party under the leadership of Bamaga Tukur, he added, would continue to carry all the people along.
