Aluko Was A Man Of Integrity, Says Ekiti Dep Gov

EKITI State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka, has described the late renowned economist, Prof. Sam Aluko, as a great Ekiti man with integrity and candour, whose analysis on financial matters assisted Nigeria get out of so many messy situations in the past.

Meanwhile, Aluko’s remains will be buried today in his home town, Ode Ekiti in Gboyin Council of the state.

Aluko, who was the first council Chairman of Ado Ekiti died on February 2, this year at a London hospital.

Speaking yesterday at the Commendation Service held for Aluko at the Chapel of Annunciation, Archbishop Vinning College of Theology, Akure, she said the late economist, in his life time, was very profound in his thought and prophetic in his opinion when it came  to economic issues, hence he would not only be missed by his family and Nigerians alone, but also scholars across the globe.

Olayinka said the present leadership of the state was proud to have known and tapped from his fountain of invaluable knowledge and experience and explained that death, being a necessary end, has come for the economist of repute at a time that everybody in the state needed him most, especially now that we are embarking on collective rescue mission.

His funeral commenced since Wednesday at Akure where he lived most  of his life.

A government source yesterday said he would be accorded a state burial being the first administrator of Ekiti council under Ondo Province in 1956.

According to the source, ‘’Aluko could be said to be first governor of Ekiti State since he was the first person to administer Ekiti as an entity, that is why the government is according him a state burial.’’
