Aregbesola Flags Off Distribution Of Free School Uniforms

Osun State Government has begun the distribution of unified uniforms to about 750,000 public primary and secondary school pupils in the state even as it said that about N2.6billion has expended on education in the past two years.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola gave this hint Friday in Ede during the unveiling of the unified uniform system saying the event had vindicated his administration on his promise for efficient service delivery.

With two pairs of uniforms earmarked for each pupil in elementary and middle schools including students in high schools, the state government had provided uniforms for over 750,000 students

HE said the distribution of free uniforms and Health Education textbooks marks the beginning of better days parents, guardians and pupils in the state.

The school uniforms is of three different types and designed according to the school structures as elementary, middle and high schools.

Aregbesola disclosed that about d800 million was expended on the school uniforms while over N1.8 billion had been spent on school feeding programme tagged “O-Meal” for pupils in primary 1- 4 and payment of examination fees.

He said the figure exluded salaries and emoluments of teachers stating that the expenditure makes the state the biggest spender on education despite that it ranks 34th on the table of federal allocation coming to it.

According to the governor, the first set of uniforms would be handed to the public school children all over the state free of charge, while those who might need them would buy replacement at highly subsidised rate.

He described the free uniform as one of the efforts aimed at changing the face of education in the state saying there is no alternative to education as an enduring legacy.
