Art Foundation, IITA Boost Reforestation Effort

THE ongoing fight against deforestation and depletion of greenery in the country has received an additional boost with the reforestation fund raising ball organised by Kakafoni Art Foundation in support of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA’s) Forest Project.

The event, which holds today at the La Scala Restaurant at Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos will have Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, a renowned environmental activist as the compere. The event is billed to start at 7pm and will also have Deni Bown, The Forest Project Coordinator of IITA, shedding more light on the key objectives of the event. There will also be a book signing by the latter.

“Reforestation is absolutely necessary and highly important to mitigate the effects of global warming as well as provide a well balanced ecosystem that would be beneficial to humans and plants alike.

“Proceeds made from the ball will go to purchase of a pump to irrigate young trees in the IITA forest project nursery, development of a medicinal plant garden to show how to grow and use rainforest herbs for health, and the restoration of the of the IITA Arboretum of West African trees as a genetic and educational resource,” the organisers said.

The event promises to be a lively and entertaining in support of mother nature and will feature drinks and canapés, a sumptuous three-course dinner, a fashion show by upscale label, OOSUA featuring plant dyed materials, music by celebrated piper, Norman C. MacLeod and fellow musicians, blending Scottish essence with African ambience.
