Zamfara awards N6.7b water contract

From Isah Ibrahim, Gusau

ZAMFARA State government has awarded a N6.7 billion contract for the provision of potable water to nine councils in the state, according to Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar.

The governor, who disclosed this yesterday when he inspected the site of water project at Bakalori Dam in Mafara/Maradun council, said the project was the first phase of his administration’s initiative aimed at addressing the water problem affecting the two councils.

He said the second phase of the water project would include the construction of additional water treatment plants that will connect other seven councils with Bakalori dam.

According to Yari: “When we came in, we met the project, which was to cover nine local councils but the plan then was to construct a mini-water treatment plant. We realised that the need of our people was more than that and that is why we changed the plan to cover a large treatment centre, which will cost N6.7 billion”.
