MAIDUGURI – AS the spate of killings on the streets of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital  continues unabated, unknown gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram sect members, Wednesday, killed three people and injured two others during an attack in Bulumkutu ward of the metropolis.

Vanguard newspaper gathered that at about 8: 30pm yesterday, the gunmen opened fire on the victims who were sitting on a mat in front of their house and sped off.

Those killed during the attack are Mr. Turumda Malgwi, aged 56, Director of Planning and Statistics, Borno State Civil Service Commission; Mr. Yakubu Iliya, aged 65, a retired staff of Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri and a 22 year old boy whose name could not be ascertained.

Confirming the incident, the Borno state Police Commissioner, Mr. Simeon Midenda said, at about 8: 30pm on Wednesday, some yet to be identified gunmen ambushed some people who were relaxing in front of their house and killed 3 people, while 2 persons sustained injuries as a result of gun shots.

Midenda said that it is unfortunate that residents of the area could not immediately alert the police on the development, and that the corpses of those killed had to remain at the scene throughout that night, adding that, “it was just this morning that we were informed of the incident, as most of the residents had to flee from the area for fear of further attacks”, he lamented.
