Council raises alarm over fake drugs

CHAIRMAN of Udenu Local Council in Enugu State, Godwin Abonyi, has raised alarm over rising cases of fake and adulterated drugs across the council, stressing that efforts must be made to check the trend.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service to mark his re-election, Abonyi lamented that 90 per cent of drugs sold in the area were fake, adding that it was an indication that the successes recorded by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in the fight against fake and adulterated drugs had failed to get to the rural communities.

Abonyi said his council would summon a meeting of all pharmacies and drug store operators in the area after which it would invoke the law against anybody peddling fake drugs within the area.
